This guide covers what these scale-ups test — closer to Big Tech than local shops, but with a practical, product-first flavor — and how to prepare.

These are Tier 2 product companies at real scale — a common and excellent target for regional engineers leveling up from local roles, and a strong destination in their own right (great comp, hard problems, international exposure).

  2. Strong coding (DS&A) — a solid algorithms bar, like Big Tech.
  3. Product & practical sense — they build real products, so they value pragmatic trade-offs and understanding the business, not just theoretical scale.

  5. Sometimes LLD — varies; some include an OOP design round.

How to prepare (scale-up playbook)

  1. Full framework + core HLD. Know the framework cold and the Tier 1–2 case studies.
  2. Go deep on their domain. Pick the table row above and master those designs — including the domain nuances (geospatial matching, saga-based order flows, ledger-based payments, fraud).
  3. Strong DS&A. Don’t neglect coding; the bar is high.
  4. Understand the region’s realities. Multi-country (different currencies, languages, regulations), mobile-first (many users on low-end devices/spotty networks), cash-on-delivery, local payment methods. Mentioning these shows product awareness they value.
  5. Behavioral in English, emphasizing ownership, ambiguity, cross-cultural collaboration (these are diverse, international teams).

2. Add the regional lens. Redo one design accounting for multi-country, low-connectivity, cash-on- delivery, and local payment methods. Practice naming these constraints — it signals product maturity.
